Yolanda M. DeMar, 94, (formerly of Pittsburgh, PA) passed away peacefully on August 14, 2016, while a resident of the Forum at the Woodlands in The Woodlands, Texas. Lun, as she was known by family and friends, was born to Domenico and Marie (Ciranni) Crocco, in Pittsburgh, PA, on March 16, 1922. Beloved wife of Anthony J. DeMar who preceded her in death; mother of Richard (Leslie) and Gary (Carol); sister to Thelma Weir and Evelyn Dietz and the late Victor Crocco, Peter Crocco, Thomas Crocco, Dominic Crocco, Jeanine Chaires, Phyllis Kirsacko, Mafalda Bernarding, and Helen Mangieri.
Yolanda is also survived by three grandsons, Christopher, David, and James and seven great-grandchildren, Calvin, Paul, Juliana, Thomas, Esther, Charles, and Anthony.
Yolanda grew up in a loving and talented family of brothers and sisters. After graduating from Carrick High School, she worked as a flight attendant for Pennsylvania Central Airlines out of Allegheny Airport. During World War II she joined the war effort by working for Oliver Iron and Steel Corporation on the South Side of Pittsburgh producing various ammunition shells for fighting forces.
The Korean War came home to Lun when she received news that Anthony had received a catastrophic injury that resulted in the amputation of his right leg. The injury and subsequent rehabilitation did not deter her from being a devoted wife and mother. Her legacy lives on in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
