Wanda May

October 2, 1945 — October 20, 2022

On October 2, 1945, Wanda Lee Mask was born in New Madrid, Missouri. Smack in the middle of seven children, she was naturally quiet and unassuming. She shied away from attention, except in school where she excelled, graduating top of her class. After high school, she moved to Arizona to pursue an education in nursing where she eventually she met her former husband, George May and together they had two children, Michael and Michele. A few years later, on a wild hair, they moved to Colorado and had their third child, Melisa.

Although her career started in nursing, she found her true calling in real estate. In Colorado, she was an entrepreneur, opening her own company The Real Estate Training School, which trained future real estate agents. When the family moved to Texas, she worked for REMAX, eventually managing REMAX The Woodlands and Spring. She truly loved her job with REMAX. She was proud of the work she did and considered all the agents and owners her friends.

Wanda loved her family, the sound of little kids laughing, and the wind chimes in her back yard. Because her immediate family was very poor, security meant a good job, a good house, reliable transportation, and health insurance. She believed education saved her from a life of poverty. She made sure her children were self-sufficient and believed that doing everything for your kids was a form of child abuse. Her favorite Bible verse was Psalms 46:10, "Be still and know that I am God" and could be found in almost every room in her house.

Wanda is survived by her three children, Michael (Denise) of Palestine, Texas, Michele (James) of Magnolia, Texas and Melisa (Randall) of College Station, Texas and her grandchildren Abigail (Zachary), Jacob (Shelby), Opal, Christian (Alisha), Evan, Emerald and Scott. She missed the birth of her first great grandchild, Sawyer, by two weeks. She is also survived by her brother Dale (Bonnie) Mask of Malden, Missouri. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Opal Mask, as well as her siblings Edna Highers, Charles Mask, Glenda Morrison, Jeanie Avenetti, Bonnie Sills, Ruby Mask and Carl Mask.
