Vernie Lunell Crisp Ballenger, age 74, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at Greater Heights Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, TX. She was born July 30, 1947 in San Angelo, TX to Henry LaRue Hennig Sr. and Elgene Hennig. After high school and getting her cosmetology certification, she met and married her first husband, Robert Crisp, and had two children, Mark and Amber. After many years, unfortunately, the two divorced but in a few years, she met her second husband, Earnest Ballenger, who lives in Nacogdoches, TX. She worked as a dispatcher for Yellow Cab and Quest Labs until retiring. She loved her grandchildren, her nieces, nephew, and grand-nieces very much and always made sure they had gifts for Easter and Christmas, no matter what it took. She was a strong and independent woman and will be truly missed by those that knew her and loved her. She is preceded in death by her parents, Henry LaRue Hennig, Sr., and Elgene Hennig, her sister Annette Legg, and her first husband Robert Crisp. She is survived by her husband, Earnest Ballenger, son Mark Crisp, daughter Amber Smith, and husband Clark. Brothers, Henry LaRue Hennig, Jr. and Kenneth Hennig and wife Jeanette. She has three grandchildren, Lance Smith, Dharma Smith, and Zoe Smith. She also has many nieces and nephews.

After the service, the family will go to McKenzie’s BBQ at 1501 N. Frazier St., and everyone is invited to join them for a non-catered visit.
