Thomas L. Mathews, 68 of Jeanerette, Louisiana passed away on October 9, 2020 at his brother’s home in Spring, TX while evacuating from Hurricane Delta. He was able to spend precious time with his wife, brother and sister-in-law.
Thomas worked in shipyards until his retirement in 2008. After retirement, he loved fishing and going to garage sales. He also loved making beautiful beaded necklaces, key chains and charms to give away to family and friends. He loved giving to others.
Thomas was born on September 16, 1952 in Liberty, Texas, the son of Archie Lee Mathews and Patsy Jewel Swan.
Thomas leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 38 years, Beulah Guidry Mathews; daughter, Tosha Angelle Mathews Smith and husband Vendell Smith and his son, Landon of Thibodaux, LA; son, Thomas Lee Mathews Jr. and fiancée Christine Weber and her daughters Averie and Alyssa of New Iberia, LA; brother, Pete Watterson of Tucson, AZ; brother, Jackie Marilyn Ragan of Albuquerque NM; sister, Mauday Patsy Ragan Brown and husband Robert E Brown of Albuquerque NM; brothers, Luther William ‘Butch’ Ragan Jr. of Splendora, TX and Grady Lynn Mathews Sr. and his wife Donna of Spring, TX; sister-in-law, Ann Crockrell Ragan (JW’s wife) of Eagletown, OK; niece, Patsy Jewel Gurley and husband Robert Gurley of Cut and Shoot, TX; Heather Mathews (widow of nephew, Grady Lynn Mathews, Jr.) and countless relatives and friends including his favorite sweet potato lady, Erica Every.
Thomas was preceded in death by his father and mother, Archie Lee and Patsy Jewel Mathews; brothers, Gerald Wayne Waterson and Jay Westley ‘JW’ Ragan; and nephew, Grady Lynn Mathews, Jr.
