It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sonja Louise (Lund) Davis, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister, aunt, cousin and friend, who left us on September 6, 2025, at the age of 86. She passed away peacefully and surrounded by her husband and daughter at home in Conroe, TX.
Born on December 30, 1938, in Viborg, SD, Sonja was the cherished daughter of Eskild and Magda Lund. She grew up in Viborg and later moved to Greeley, Colorado for college and then to Santa Ana, CA where she lived with wonderful roommates while teaching kindergarten and 3rd grade. She met her husband, Warren Davis in Balboa Island and they were married in her hometown, on her birthday, in 1962.
Sonja and Warren built a life filled with joy and many dear friendships across many locations including Sparta, NJ, Albuquerque, NM, Jeddah, Saudia Arabia, Fair Oaks, CA, Palm Desert, CA, Bartlesville, OK and eventually Conroe, TX. Sonja was a devoted mother to Julie Davis Petit and Kristina Davis Munoz and her greatest joy came from caring for her family and grandchildren, Karly Munoz, Connor Munoz, and Hallie Munoz. She often spent weeks at a time doting over these kids. She commented often that her heart grew another heart with each grandchild’s birth. Her kindness, humor, and gentle spirit touched the lives of everyone who knew her. Sonja lived a life filled with creativity as she was an artist at heart and expressed her talent through several different mediums. She launched multiple businesses showcasing her artistic ability. Additionally, she was an avid reader, loved gardening and “digging in the dirt”. She played and eventually shared her passion for Mah jong by teaching it to others. She was very proud of her Danish heritage and shared traditions of open-face sandwiches, peppernod cookies and dancing around the Christmas Tree. She participated as an artist and board member for the annual OK Mozart festival. She served with Newcomers and enjoyed welcoming new families to Bartlesville and the community. And one of her hidden talents was that she could make a meal out of any kind of leftovers any night of the week.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 63 years, Warren Marshall Davis, her brother Gordon Lund, and her children and grandchildren; and preceded in death by her parents Eskild Lund d.1982 and Magda (Lauritsen) Lund d. 2001.
A private memorial service will be held in December, details to be finalized. We invite prayers from friends and family to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Museum of Danish America in Elk Horn, IA or Pioneer Memorial Foundation benefiting the Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Viborg, SD, in her memory. Her love and grace will continue to live on in all who knew her.
