Simon Carrion Ortiz, Sr.

Simon Carrion Ortiz, Sr., age 79, passed away at his home in Conroe on Tuesday, August 20, 2013. He was born on January 16, 1934 in Richmond, TX and spent his childhood in Rule, Haskell, Rochester, and Abilene, TX. During his young adult years, Simon worked in the cotton fields and gins and junk yards to make a living for his family. He loved drive-in movies and fast cars. He was a multitalented man and enjoyed working with his hands as a diesel mechanic, electrician, and welder. He was a field supervisor for Buntke Brother Construction Company for 29 years. Simon was a member of St. Vincent Catholic Church. Simon was preceded in death by his mother, Petra; father, Jesus; and brothers, Nick, Gavino, Beco, and Nacho. He is survived by his ex wife, Julia Ortiz; children, Elizabeth, Simon, Petra, Gloria, and Joe; 14 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; siblings, Raul, Lupe, and Ampado; and numerous relatives and friends.
