Sidney “LaRoy” Scott, 83, was born on July 8, 1939. He passed away peacefully at his home in Willis, Texas on January 30, 2023, surrounded by loved ones.
LaRoy was born in Gladewater, Texas to the late Sidney Taylor Scott and Myrtle Mae Goldsmith Scott.
He joined the U.S. Navy, at age 20, on December 16, 1959, after serving on the USS Lexington, he was honorably discharged on June 30, 1963. Early in life he enjoyed a good game of pinochle and horse shoes with friends. He also loved crossword puzzles, Sudoku, swap meets, and classic cars.
LaRoy was an avid master carpenter, as well as a member of The Grand Masonic Lodge. He was also a member of The Pasadena Bass Club and would go fishing any chance he could.
He was very involved with his children, and thought it was important to help them with FFA and 4-H. He would spend countless hours with them as they showed their animals at the Montgomery County Fair. LaRoy was very family oriented and enjoyed spending quality time with everyone at family gatherings.
LaRoy was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years Charlotte Estelle Scott; his son, Doyle Lynn Scott; mother Myrtle Mae Goldsmith Scott; father, Sidney Taylor Scott; brother, Bobby Joe Scott; sisters, Betty Ann Harris and Peggy Alyne.
LaRoy was a dedicated father, brother, grandfather, uncle, brother-in-law, and friend. He leaves behind his three children; Charles Scott (Robbie), Kelly Bach (David), and Samuel Scott (Sabrina); ten grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy Scott; and companion, Laura Mittelstedt. Numerous nieces and nephews and other family members are also survived. LaRoy will be sorely missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing him.
