Rudolph Masterson

December 10, 1926 — March 23, 2013

Bob Masterson, 86, passed away on March 23, 2013 at Conroe Regional Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born on December 10, 1926, in Waukegan, Texas, to Francis and Japter C. Masterson. In 1945, he graduated from Conroe High School and immediately joined the US Army Air Corps. He was stationed in Cincinnati, Ohio, where he served as a cryptographer at the Continental Air Command. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Conroe where he met and married his wife, Clara Lois McDonald. Together they raised five children and rebuilt the farm his grandfather, Rudolf Urech, started in (1886) in East Montgomery County, a feat he considered his legacy to his family. Bob worked in the Conroe Oil Field as a young man. Upon his return to Conroe, he was employed at Norvell-Wilder (which later became Superior Supply and Red Man Oil Field Supply) where he became the Branch Manager, a position he held until his retirement in 1989. Bob loved hunting, fishing and cutting firewood. Trips to Colorado and Wyoming highlighted his travels and his hunting and fishing buddies loved to share stories of their adventures. Bob was a devoted family man who enjoyed hosting the annual Urech Family Reunions on the same grounds that his grandfather walked in the 1800's. Bob and Clara also opened their home to many young friends and relatives who knew that Aunt Clara and Uncle Bob always served dinner promptly at 4:30 PM. One of his most cherished traditions included hosting the annual family Christmas Eve party and watching the little ones open their presents. Bob leaves behind his wife of sixty-four years, Clara Lois, and his five children: Barbara Masterson, Karen Nichols (Lloyd), Robert Masterson (Debby), Wm. E. (Billy) Masterson (Paula), and Marcus Masterson (Janet). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Gregory Masterson, Lauren Nichols Gottlieb (Kenny), Jana Masterson, Jeffrey Masterson, Hayley Masterson, and Wesley Masterson and great-grandchildren Camryn Ward, Gage Smith and Zane Gottlieb. Bob was predeceased by his twin brother, Adolph (Bud) Masterson, and his sisters: Louella Wood, Lucille Chesnut, Bessie Moye.
