Roy Lee Hickenbottom, age 74, passed away on June 19, 2021 at his home in Conroe, Texas. He was born on September 28, 1946 in Dennison, Ohio to Leota and Roy Hickenbottom. He grew up in Ohio where his love for baseball turned into a life-long appreciation for the game, especially for the Cincinnati Reds. As a teenager, he moved to Texas until he joined the military. He was in the Army from 1966-1970, where he served in the Vietnam War as well as being in the Marines from 1970-1974. He met his future wife while visiting his brother in Houston. After being discharged from the military, they ended up moving together to Ohio where they married. They spent a short time in Ohio then moved back to Texas to start their family. In his professional career, Roy accumulated over 40 years of trucking, retiring and recognized with over two million miles accident free. He was a strong Christian and a member of Woodland Hills Church of Christ for 19 years.
Roy was preceded in death by the love of his life, Sandra Hickenbottom; his parents; sister, Ann; and brothers, Dean, Gene and Allen Hickenbottom. He is survived by his children, Amanda Kleiss and husband Bryan, Amy Turner and husband Todd; grandchildren, Sydney, Paisley, Maeghann, Piper, Paityn and Greyson; and great-granddaughter, Sutton.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 6 PM to 8 PM on Tuesday, June 29, 2021 at Eickenhorst Funeral Services, 1712 N Frazier at Wilson Rd, Suite #115, Conroe, TX 77301. Graveside and interment will be held at 11:15 AM on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 in Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr, Houston, TX 77038. Honors will be rendered.
