Ronald Kent Wilkins, 79, of Conroe, Texas passed away on Wednesday, February 11, 2015 with his loving family by his side. He was born on May 20, 1935 in Graham, Oklahoma and spent his childhood in that area, and out in west Texas. He was a graduate of Dundee High School in Wirt, Oklahoma. His early years were spent working in the oilfields of Oklahoma. He then attended Midwestern State Univ. in Wichita Falls, Texas on a music scholarship. He furthered his higher education by attending the University of Oklahoma, and finally Southeastern State University where he received his Master’s degree in Education with emphasis in music. Ron married Shirley Lorraine Camp in 1953. He was a certified teacher in the State of Texas and taught choral music, as well as coaching football and track in Sherman, Texas. Later he became a sales representative for the Scott – Foresman Publishing Co. After retirement he was associated with the family business; Wilkins Jewelry Co. of Conroe, Texas. Ron was a Master Mason of the 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason Arabia Temple for 50 years, a charter member of the River Plantation Lion’s Club, and a member of Tree of Life ELCA Lutheran Church.
Ron is preceded in death by his parents, Charley Franklin Wilkins and Flora Ruby Wilkins. He survived by his wife of over 61 years, Shirley Wilkins; son, Mitchell Wilkins and my wife Traci; two grandchildren, Christopher Wilkins and Brenna Wilkins; his only brother, Max Wilkins and his wife Nancy; two nephews, Kelly Wilkins and wife Laura and Lane Wilkins and wife Michelle; a niece, Rona Malone and husband Derrick; a great nephew, Mitchell Wilkins; and two great nieces, Marcee and McKinlee Wilkins.
