Robert grew up in Valparaiso, Indiana where his parents worked a family farm; in addition, his father worked as a machinist and mother owned two beauty salons in town. After graduating from Valparaiso High School, Robert attended Valparaiso University and majored in civil engineering.
While attending college, Robert married the love of his life, Kay Poehler, on April 13, 1957. Once Robert completed college at Valparaiso, Kay told him to pack his bags because the glamor of California was calling them. They spent many enjoyable years there and in 1972, Robert’s job transferred them to Texas where they have spent most of their time.
Growing up on a farm, Robert held a strong work ethic and had the innate ability to problem solve just about anything which benefited all aspects of his life. Robert loved his family very much and loved spending time with them. He and Kay traveled with their family across the country, camping and fishing in many beautiful national and state parks. Robert also enjoyed turkey hunting and every Spring you would find him in Missouri spending time with his turkey hunting buddies. After retirement, Robert and Kay continued their love of travel going to Alaska, Canada, and Western Europe. Robert came to his faith in Jesus through the life of his beautiful wife Kay. They both paired well together - she loved interacting with others, and he loved making sure she got what she wanted. It is a comfort knowing they are together again.
Since Covid-19 restrictions required a private funeral for Kay Poehler, the family thought it was fitting since one would never see Robert without Kay, to hold a public memorial service for them both for all their friends to attend. The Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Mims Baptist Church, 1609 Porter RD, Conroe, TX 77301. Friends are invited to visit with the family beginning at 1:00 PM.
