Paul Frederick Corl, age 76, walked through the gates of heaven on September 3, 2020. He was born on April 12, 1944 in Trafford, within Westmoreland county of Pennsylvania. Paul was born into a family of funeral directors, watching his father tend to the families that lost loved ones. As a child, he helped his father with services and other tasks at the funeral home. He graduated from Trafford High School in 1962. He also went to Point Park Junior College and the University of Pittsburgh. He pursued his passion and graduated from Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science to become a funeral director.
Paul worked hard like his father before him, serving the community and providing the utmost care to his families. He eventually owned and operated his own funeral home for many years. He accumulated many stories of his experiences and loved to give advice to younger directors that he worked with. Paul was also a longtime member of the Masonic Lodge and developed many friendships over the years. He met and married Sue Ann (Bettinger) and together they enjoyed working funerals, church functions, Masonic events and many other activities.
Upon retirement, Paul and Sue Ann moved to League City, Texas where they would spend his remaining years. He became a member of the Masonic Lodge – La Porte No. 857, as well as the Arabia Oriental Shrine Houston. They attended League City United Methodist Church and hardly missed a Sunday. Though retired, Paul worked with different funeral homes as a Pre-Need director, helping families prepare for their final journeys.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Corl, Mildred Nemitz Corl and Bertha Fisher; brothers, Gene H. Corl of Monroeville, Pennsylvania and Harry E. Corl, Jr. (Bud) and wife Betty of League City. He is survived by his wife, Sue Ann (Bettinger) Corl; children, Steve and Renee Rodichok of Illinois, Joseph and Kim Rodichok of Indiana, Pennsylvania, Gwendolyn and George Parson of Loyalton, Pennsylvania; many grand and great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Elsie Corl; as well as many other relatives and friends that will miss him dearly.
A graveside and burial service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, September 7, 2020 in Bethel Baptist Cemetery, 429 Happy Land RD, Nacogdoches, TX 75965. It was Paul’s request that no flowers be purchased for his service. Instead he would like donations and contributions to be made to United Methodist Church of League City, Masonic Lodge 857 – La Porte, Texas, or the Arabia Shrine in Houston (P.O. Box 420549, Houston, TX 77242).
