Michael Ray Wimberly

September 11, 1949 — June 20, 2022

Mike, as he was known to most of us, was born September 11, 1949 in Houston, Texas to TW and Nelda Wimberly. He was raised in Houston and graduated from Galena Park High School; attended San Jacinto Junior College with the goal of pursuing a career in art. His direction changed working at Armco Steel, Signing Systems, Merchants Truck Lines until retiring from Central Freight Lines in 2014.

Mike’s early hobbies included art which is showcased in his house. He loved sports - Houston Oilers, Houston Astros and later accepted the Houston Texans. He played Little League in his youth and as an adult joined the Softball League and has trophies galore in his home representing that joy. Later in life his time and love turned to classic cars. His pride and joy was his 1930 Model A Ford Coop which he called the “Red Rooster”. He and Betty enjoyed attending many of the Classic Car events in Texas and developed many new friends who also shared this passion.

Mike was genuine, true to himself and always up for a good debate on life and politics. He had a great sense of humor, appreciated his family and friends and was always up for a good time with a Jack Daniels and coke.

Mike is survived by his daughter, Shari Crispi and her husband Richard; granddaughter, Crystal Neely; brother, Tommy Wimberly and wife Cheryl; sister, Sandra Wimberly; and nieces, Kim Lambeth and her husband Robert, and Brandi Gilliland and her husband Jeff, along with many special friends.

Mike’s long-time love and companion for over 35 years was Betty Loth. Betty took excellent care of Mike over the years and we are especially thankful that she wanted to take care of Mike before and during his Hospice period. Along with Shari, Betty was by his side when he passed. We love you Betty and you will always be a part of our family.

We also want to thank the staff of Silverado Hospice for their care and attention to Mike. They were such a comfort to all of us.

Mike always had a special place in his heart for pets and was a loving cat owner for many years. I’m sure Mike would be honored if anyone wanted to give a donation to a pet shelter in his name.

Mike will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.
