Matthew Glenn McMullen, 19, passed away tragically in the woods of Phelps, TX on September 29th, 2025 as the front passenger in a motor vehicle accident. He was born on Aug 21, 2006 in Shenandoah, Texas to his parents, Jason and Jeanette (Noyes) McMullen.
Matthew had a joyful ginger spirit, always full of life, who enjoyed fishing with his friends, hunting with his PawPaw and cousin, swinging golf “Klub”s with Sierra at their Papa’s golf shop, flying his flag from the back of his sentimental black pickup truck and playing his country music loud and proud. He had a zest for the outdoors - especially playing in the greenbelt and stream behind his house, jumping off the rocks in his backyard swimming pool and having swimming races with his sister. Matthew was joined in sleep, nightly, by his favorite support dog, Buddy. Though his time with us was brief, he cracked jokes daily, hugged deeply, and lit up the room with his beautiful smile that he shared readily with everyone who knew him. We are so proud of his accomplishments and to know he was happy enjoying life outdoors with the windows rolled down when he passed. I love YOU more, Matthew.
Matthew attended Buckalew Elementary where he learned to love singing in choir, which carried on into his two years at Mitchell Intermediate. That is where he fell in love with music and learned to play trombone before auditioning for tuba in sixth grade. At McCullough Jr High, he was excited to have made Wind Ensemble and made TMEA Region 9 Jr High Symphonic Band, 1st chair with his tuba. At The Woodlands High School is where he fell in love with marching band competitions. He was so proud to go to Indy his sophomore and senior year for Bands of America Grand Nationals competition. Between his junior and senior year in high school, the assistant band director posted a need for a contra position, and he was chosen to play for Drum Corps International’s Madison Scouts out of Madison, WI. He spent two of his best summer months touring the country competing against other Drum Corps. He spent his Senior year at The Woodlands High School on the Band’s leadership team and graduated in 2024.
Matthew was involved in Young Men’s Service League throughout high school and earned outstanding service awards for his hours of service to various philanthropies. He spent as many hours as he could outside of band season volunteering his time with his favorite philanthropy, Sleep In Heavenly Peace – Montgomery County and attained Team Captain for bed deliveries, which were his pride and joy - to deliver beds to kids without a bed of their own to sleep on. He was awarded the first Emerging Leader award for the SHP – MoCo chapter in August 2024, shortly before heading off to college. He also was in the process of becoming involved in the startup Huntsville SHP chapter. He inspired so many others with his kindness and his proven willingness to help others. Because of his involvement in and connections with SHP, he was hired to work at The Woodlands Home Depot location in April 2024. Because of his strong work ethic, he easily transferred to the Huntsville location at the start of college, where he made a lot of new friends that loved him during his time attending Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX majoring in Mechanical Engineering and Technology.
He will be forever cherished and remembered by his loving parents Jeanette (Noyes) McMullen and Jason Matthew McMullen, his beloved younger sister Sierra Ann McMullen, older half-sister Emili Kay (McMullen) and Matt Pool, niece Savannah Grace Pool, his maternal grandparents Barbara and Thomas Noyes, and his paternal grandparents Sharon and Rick Daugherty, along with many aunts, uncles, and beloved cousins. Lastly, his best K-9 buddy ever, Buddy. He was preceded in death by his favorite childhood kitty, Nikki; and by Jason’s step dad, Glenn Amerson, for whom Matthew Glenn was partially named after.
A Celebration of Life Service in Matthew's honor will be held at 4:00 PM on Monday, October 6th, 2025 at Faith Bible Church, 5505 Research Forest Dr., The Woodlands, TX 77381.
The services will be live streamed at a link to be provided as soon as possible.
