Marvin Ackerman, age 78, passed away on June 5, 2013 in The Woodlands, Texas. He was born on March 5, 1935 in the Bronx, New York. He was the youngest of five siblings born to emigrant parents from Poland and loved to tell stories of a childhood spent going to Yankees games and 10 cent movies. Following graduation in 1954, Marvin joined the Air Force. A veteran of the Korean War, he left the Air Force in 1958, moved to Maryland, and took with him a love for travel. After graduating from RCA Institute as an electronics technician, Marvin went to work for RCA where he was part of the crew on the ship that assisted with some capsule recoveries for NASA. In 1966, he went to work for the Navy where he continued to work on ships and travel. Marvin was transferred to Stennis Space Center, MS and moved to nearby Slidell, La. in 1978. In 1980, he gave up traveling for a desk job allowing him to raise his two teenage children as a single father. Marvin retired in 1998 and moved to Mesquite, TX in 2005 following Hurricane Katrina. In 2012, he moved to The Woodlands, Texas. Marvin will be missed for his zest for life that he shared with everyone around him. He loved all music, movies, history, baseball, and theology. Those who knew him could count on him for a tale (some taller than others) to make them laugh. Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Ackerman and Anna Kaner Ackerman; former wife, Anita Nyman Ackerman; and his four sisters. He is survived by his beloved children, Jeff and wife Maureen, and Elisa and husband Todd Burke; and adored grandchildren, Jadyn Ackerman and Hannah Burke. The family wishes to thank the medical professionals and staff at Regent Care Nursing Home, Rose of Texas Hospice, and Comfort Keepers.
