Marian Anegone Dugdale passed away peacefully Thursday, January 17, 2013, at the age of 92. Marian gained local and international prominence as the first employee of Hines Interests, the Houston-based global real estate firm, serving as an accountant and mentor until her retirement in 2011 at the age of 90. The daughter of Greek immigrants, she was born November 5, 1920 in Calumet, a small town in Michigan's Upper Peninsula - affectionately referred to as "The U.P." Marian married John Dugdale, of Hancock, Michigan, before ultimately settling in Houston in 1956 where they would raise their beloved daughter Mary Ann. Marian began her 53-year career at Hines in 1958, when she was hired by a young Gerald Hines to work in a tiny two-room office on Richmond Avenue. She provided vital accounting services - and infectious enthusiasm - as the two-person company grew to employ more than 3,000 people, with offices in 18 countries. In her later years, Marian embraced her role as a Hines ambassador, speaking regularly at Hines management conferences and welcoming new hires to the firm's corporate offices as part of their official building tour. In her numerous speaking engagements, she would often say fondly that, "There is a piece of me in every Hines building." For Marian, Hines was more than job, it was a family. An animal lover and avid traveller, she believed deeply in the pursuit of education - regardless of age, earning her associates degree at the age of 73 while working full time. Adored by all who knew her, Marion was especially popular with Hines' younger employees - taking time out of her day to share her experiences and advice, often closing meetings with a hug or a personalized secret handshake. Marian was a loyal friend and confidant to many and will be dearly missed by her Hines colleagues, friends, and the staff of The Westbury Place nursing home, where she was a frequent visitor, bringing smiles and cheer. Marian is preceded in death by her husband and beloved parents. She leaves behind her daughter Mary Ann and innumerable friends and admirers at home and abroad. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Friday, January 25, 2013 at St. Michael's Catholic Church at, 1801 Sage Road, Houston, Texas. . In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to St. Michael Catholic Church.
