Malcolm Ray Tomplait

October 12, 1936 — April 28, 2026

Malcolm Ray Tomplait, 89, of Porter, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2026. He was born on October 12, 1936, at 1:45 a.m. in Port Arthur, Texas, along with his twin brother, Gordan Tomplait, to Joseph V. Tomplait and Monterey Lois King, both of whom preceded him in death. He was the youngest of five boys.

He would often tell stories about how his twin brother, Gordan, was left-handed, and when they would box with each other, he would have to change his stance to accommodate him.

Malcolm was a strong man and often talked about working in the ships and loading heavy barrels and equipment as a longshoreman, and later as a machinist for FMC Corporation until the company moved to Stephenville, Texas. Afterward, he drove a school bus for New Caney ISD and later worked for Splendora ISD as a security guard before becoming part of the grounds crew, where he was truly in his element. He loved children and would show off on the tractor, always making the kids laugh with his clowning and comical hats.

He was a witness for the Lord, always spreading the Gospel wherever he went. If you entered Walmart while he was there, you could hear him across the aisles with his strong voice and joyful spirit. He was well known at the Porter Walmart. He brought many people to church with him and loved helping and caring for those less fortunate. He was loved and appreciated by many.

Malcolm was a member of Porter United Pentecostal Church for many years. While attending Porter UPC, he enjoyed visiting retirement homes, teaching, and preaching the Gospel to anyone willing to listen. He also served as a Sunday school teacher, teaching children about the Lord, and they loved him dearly. Later, Malcolm and his wife began attending Splendora First Pentecostal Church in Splendora, Texas, under Rev. Ronald Culberth and later Rev. Ronnie Culberth, who was his current pastor.

He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, swimming, and cooking brisket on the pit.

Malcolm is survived by his children: Ginger Tomplait Emery and husband Michael; Cynthia Tomplait Thompson and husband Patrick; Kevin Tomplait; and Shane Tomplait and wife Deborah. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren, along with numerous other loving family members and treasured friends.

Malcolm was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Ginavee McShan Tomplait; his parents; his twin brother, Gordan Tomplait; brother Jack Tomplait and wife Gloria; brother Tommy Tomplait and wife Gladys; and brother Glenn Tomplait and wife Winnie.
