Lyndell Lee Ray was born to Guy and Grace Ray on November 11,1937 in Wichita Falls, TX, and passed away October 27, 2022 in his home in Montgomery, TX. Lyn grew up in a Christian family in Compton, CA.
Lyn adored his parents and little sister. For fun, he played baseball and roller skated. For spending money, he mowed neighborhood lawns and delivered newspapers and he would have said he had a happy childhood. He graduated from Compton High School in 1955, and went on to attend Long Beach State (CA) and majored in Psychology.
Lyn met and married Millie Ray, his beloved wife of 51 years, and raised two children while living in both Southern and Northern California. He loved sports, especially tennis and racquetball that he played all his life, only until recently. Also, he and Millie played hours of card games with cherished friends and family.
Just out of high school, Lyn worked at Thrifty Drug Store as a manager and at a State Hospital as a psychology aide while in College. After marrying Millie, he went on to a successful career in sales and management in the insurance industry. He valued helping people and mentoring young sales people and worked with and for lifelong friends whose friendship he loved and cherished.
Lyn was a Christian from an early age and attended services faithfully his entire life. He served as a deacon at the Tustin Church of Christ (CA) and as an elder at the Woodlands Church of Christ (TX). Lyn also was a member of Toastmasters International and also, a big brother to a little brother with the Yavapai County, Arizona Big Brother-Big Sister organization.
Lyn is survived by his sister and brother in law, Dorothy and Gary Curry; his son and daughter in law, Larry and Jennifer Ray; his daughter and son in law, Debbie and Keith Arrants. Also survived by his grandchildren, Blake Arrants and wife, Caroline, Jacki Peeden and husband, Dylan, Macy Arrants and husband Phillip, Janell Ray, Parker Arrants and wife Alex and Quentin Arrants and wife Courtlandt. Lyn was blessed with two great-grandchildren, Charlotte Lynn McLain and Jude Ray Arrants. He was also survived by other extended family, church family and a special group of close friends that he loved like family. One special one is Patti, the daughter of his beloved Millie with whom he lovingly helped place her for adoption and with whom was reunited some years later. That was Lyn. He loved big and was passionate about people and relationships and his friends. But of most importance to Lyn was his desire that everyone he loved would faithfully serve the Lord. He leaves mountains of writings of Bible studies and invitations. He brought his family to services at least 3 times a week no matter where we lived or traveled. He would want to encourage you to study the Bible and act upon the Lord’s message of love and sacrifice.
Friends are invited to visit with the family from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM on Saturday, December 3, 2022 at Eickenhorst Funeral Services, 1712 N Frazier St #115, Conroe, TX 77301. The memorial service will begin at 2:30 PM, officiated by Minister Don Hooton.
