Kin Ying Cheung, age 80, passed away with his loving family by his side on March 29, 2020 in Spring, Texas. He was born on August 8, 1939 in a village near Hong Kong, China. He grew up in this village and his father owned a jewelry shop. Kin went to high school in Hong Kong. His classmates considered him to be smart and kind-hearted. He also studied and got degrees from the University of Michigan, the University of Illinois, and Polytechnic Institute of New York. He received his Ph.D. in nuclear engineering from Polytechnic. Kin took his degrees and worked as a nuclear engineer in Tennessee, Texas, New York, and Pennsylvania. He spent the majority of his career at Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Kin did enjoy his career, but he also enjoyed leisure time such as reading and traveling as well as eating seafood.
Kin was preceded in death by his son, Allen Cheung; and parents, Chiu-To (Ho) and Dickman Cheung. He is survived by his wife, Catherine Cheung; children, James and Peter Cheung; grandchildren, Eric, Edward and Sofia Cheung; sibling, Anna Wat.
Kin will be laid to rest next his son, Allen, in Jefferson Memorial Cemetery in Pittsburgh. It is his wishes that there be no services.
