Kevin Bruce Blair

October 26, 1948 — January 14, 2025

Montgomery – Kevin Bruce Blair, 76, was received into the loving arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, during the early morning of January 14, 2025. Although deeply saddened by his death, we all grieve with the hope that we will see him again!

Kevin was born on October 26, 1948 in Lafayette, Indiana as the only child of his parents, Philip and Doris Blair. He spent his youth enjoying life on Simonton Lake with his friends, skip boat, and faithful dog (Igor).

While in high school, the family moved to Fort Wayne, Indiana where Kevin met Beverly Buesking at an amusement park dance in the fall of 1966. The two quickly fell in love and remained at each other’s side until Kevin went to be with Jesus – almost 59 years later!

The following year, he became a member the very first graduating class at Snider High (Class of ‘67), then enrolled as a student of Purdue University.

In 1971, Kevin graduated from Purdue with a degree in Electrical Engineering and was hired by the General Telephone & Electronics Corporation. While working for GTE, Kevin successfully obtained his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degree from Indiana University.

On May 27, 1972, Kevin and Beverly were married. In the years that followed, Kevin’s career began to flourish, and the couple added two beautiful daughters onto the Blair family tree.

In 1978, Kevin spearheaded a project at GTE that would eventually lead to the largest feather in his “corporate cap” and ultimately allow him to leave a significant mark on modern society and earn him three patents. By 1982, Kevin had earned himself the nickname “Mr. Mobilnet” for leading his team to create the first GTE cellular phone offered to the public, for designing their initial cellular network, and for being the brainchild of the company’s cellular service branch called GTE Mobilnet (eventually becoming a part of the company now known as Verizon).

In the 1990’s, Kevin left GTE and purchased a medical supplies company, which he and Beverly operated for over 14 years. Finally, he concluded his working career as an Options Day Trader – overlooking the water each day from their home on Lake Conroe.

In addition to a myriad of corporate and financial achievements, Kevin was also a man of many hobbies including, salsa dancing, drag racing, photography, RC cars, motorcycles, boating, water skiing, and shooting in marksmanship competitions.

Kevin is survived by the love of his life (Beverly Blair), daughters (Royceann Smith and April Raines), son-in-law (Mark Raines), grandchildren (Rylin Smith, Cali Smith, Brekden Smith, Cade Smith, Macey Raines and Nolan Raines), along with a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.

In lieu of flowers please consider donating to a cause near to Kevin's heart; BBQ Mission which is a ministry started by Kevin's nephew in AZ to feed and share God's love with those to need :
