Julian Warren Payne, “Jay”, 83 years old, passed away on Wednesday, March 6th, 2024, in Willis, Texas, surrounded by family. Julian was born in Clinton, Missouri on April 12, 1940, the son of Leland David and Dorothy Jane (Julian) Payne. He was raised in McDonald County, Missouri, and lived in Diamond, Oregon during his teenage years. On November 28, 1960, he was united in marriage to Sara Beth Shingleton, and to this union twin daughters, Jenny and Jeanie, and one son Randy, were born. They also raised two grandchildren, Heidi and Jesse.
Julian worked on ranches for a few years then was a carpenter/construction worker until he retired. He loved rodeoing, raising, and boarding horses and was an avid outdoorsman. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Sara Beth, their son, Randy Payne, one brother, Leland David Payne, Jr., his half-brother Jim Payne, brother-in-law Marvin Jess, and his son-in-law Kerry Guthary.
Julian is survived by two daughters, Jenny Guthary of Fayetteville, Arkansas, and Jeanie McGuire of Onalaska, Texas, five grandchildren, Heidi Smith and her husband Tristan, Jesse Payne, Sabrina Guthary, Conan Guthary, and Samantha Guthary, seven great grandchildren, Danica Guthary, Gage Long, William Arnold, Drake Guthary, Tanner Hicks, Vanysa Hicks, and Aurora Smith, two sisters, Dovie Jess of Burns, Oregon and Judy Barnes of Redmond, Oregon, four half-brothers, Travis McCool and wife Diana McCool of Jane, Missouri, James McCool, Robert Payne and wife Sandy of Tullahoma, Tennessee, numerous nieces and nephews, as well as a host of other family and friends.
A Celebration of Life honoring Julian and Sara Payne will be held on March 15, 2024, at the event center located at Tall Pines Distillery in Noel, MO. Friends of the family are invited to attend.
