Betty Joyce (Joy) Nichols passed away peacefully on November 15, 2012 at Odyssey Hospice in Conroe, Texas. She was born on August 22, 1931 in Conroe, Texas to Ida Jane and Bess Burl Johnson. Joy was a lifetime resident of Montgomery County Texas, where she graduated from Conroe High School. On March 2, 1951, she married the love of her life, Dan C. Nichols, and they raised two sons. She will be remembered by her family and friends as a beautiful, loving, and devoted Christian wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. Joy and Dan were longtime members of Mims Memorial Baptist Church of Conroe before they moved to Montgomery, where they became members of Union Grove Baptist Church. They assisted in the building of the new church, which was completed in 2005, and she continued to be an active member there until her death. Joy is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Mary Runnels. She is survived by her husband, Dan C. Nichols; sister, Nell Takacs; brother, B. B. Johnson; sons, Lloyd S. Nichols and Randall K. Nichols; daughter-in-law, Karen L. (Masterson) Nichols; grandchildren, April L. Woodburn, Rachel Donald, Lauren Gottlieb, and Brandon and Kevin Nichols; great-grandchildren, Lily and Michael Woodburn and John J. Donald; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins, all of whom were very dear to her. Serving as pallbearers are Glen Barron, Ted Doucet, Anthony Nichols, Kemeth Nichols, Michael Nichols, and Joe Runnels. Honorary pallbearers are Bobby Hobbs and Bland Kelley. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses of Conroe Regional Hospital and Odyssey Hospice for the love and care given to Joy during her recent illness.
