John Walter Toland

On November 21st, 2022, John Walter Toland of Montgomery, TX, died at age 79 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s.

John was born on May 3rd, 1943 to Jack and Rita Toland. John was raised with his younger brother, Bob, in Inglewood, California where he attended Lennox High School before joining the Navy in 1965.

John met the love of his life Nancy and the two were wed in August of 1969. Together they raised their son Jack in Simi Valley, CA. In 1970, John joined the Los Angeles Police Department and served nearly 30 years retiring as a Detective III. Although John worked in all aspects of policing, his career focused on the Burglary Auto Theft Division in the Commercial Auto Theft Section “BAD CATS”.

In 2000, John and Nancy relocated to Montgomery, TX. John spent the next 20 years as a successful real estate agent working with ranch and undeveloped property. John survived childhood Polio to become a distinguished high school quarterback. John was an avid Hot Rod enthusiast, and a member of the National Street Rod Association. John served as the president of the Western States Auto Theft Investigators, was a member of the Los Angeles Police Protective League, served in the Army National Guard, and was always quick to help a friend with any project great or small.

John was preceded in death by his father John, mother Rita, and brother Robert. John is survived by his wife Nancy; son Jack, and his wife Stephanie; brother-in-law, Dr. Charles Neilson and sister-in-law, Cheryl Tardif.
