John David Mauchamer

John David Mauchamer, 82, passed away at Houston Methodist Hospital after a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Washington, DC, in 1943 to parents Fatula and Leo Mauchamer. John was a quiet man with a great sense of humor, an entrepreneur and a dreamer. He began his working career inputting data in a bank basement. He didn’t care for that kind of work so he quit and went to diving school in California. Once certified, he began deep sea diving in the Gulf of America (formerly Mexico) and around the world. He quickly learned that this was very hard on the body and left diving to buy a truck and tractor trailer. He named his rig The Sunshine Express and hauled produce coast to coast for 10 years. Truck driving is also hard on the body so he sold the rig and opened The Quarterdeck Pub in Rockville, MD. After 10 years in the bar business, he sold it and opened the Wheels Hobby Shop specializing in RC cars and trucks which brought him great joy. 

He and his wife retired to North Myrtle Beach, SC, in 1996. After 12 years, they moved to Montgomery, TX, to be close to family. 

John leaves behind his loving wife of 46 years, Suellen Van Coutren Mauchamer; daughter, Tiffany Halpin Little, her husband Michael Paul Little, and grandchildren Mason Michael and Emma Grace Little. 

He is preceded in death by both parents and his brother Bill.

A celebration of his life will be held in the near future.
