John S. Lolio Sr.

May 31, 1955 — March 15, 2025

John S Lolio Sr, 69, passed away in Houston March 15, 2025. Born in Providence, Rhode Island May 31st 1955, He was the third of nine children to Albert and Muriel Lolio. He grew up with his sisters Marjorie, Muriel, Shirley, Barbara, Diane, Joanne and brothers Albert Jr and Thomas.
John was a veteran, an air traffic controller, labor advocate, and most important a cherished and loved family man.

He grew up in Providence to become a strong-willed and intelligent young man. He would enlist in the Navy in 1973, where he trained to become air traffic controller. During enlistment in the navy he returned to Rhode Island where he met Patricia Russen, where it was love at first sight.
In 1977, John and Patricia were married and welcomed their son John Lolio Jr. and he got to experience the joy of being father. After being hired by the Federal Aviation Administration the family moved to Longmont, Colorado where they welcomed a second son, Joseph Lolio.
Through his work as an air traffic controller John was highly involved in the labor union (NATCA). John was an unsung working class hero who challenged those around him to make them stronger advocates. Retiring in 2005, he kept the airways safe and inspired activists for many years. Even in retirement he continued mentoring numerous air traffic controllers beginning their careers in Oklahoma City.
John’s true joy in life was first being a father, later a grandfather, and recently a great grandfather. He cared, taught, and took care of those around them. He helped those around them through tough times, and enjoyed to take those he cared about to fine dinners. His family will miss him and love him dearly. He is preceded by his parents, his older sister Marjorie Sivo, his beloved niece Toni Mercer and nephews David Rineer Jr. and David Calise Jr.

His legacy lives on through his sons John Lolio Jr. and Joseph Lolio, Daughter in laws Bernice Lolio and Jessi Lolio, grand children Michael Lolio, Kayla Lolio, John Lolio III, Rocco Lolio and Victor Lolio, and great grandchild Amora Lolio.
