John Dixon (Dick) Osburn

John Dixon (Dick) Osburn, age 82, of Montgomery, TX, passed away on November 18, 2012. He was born on June 15, 1930 in Dallas. He attended Highland Park High School, and graduated from TCU in 1951 with a bachelors degree in speech, radio and drama. He earned a Masters in Arts from TCU the next year before serving in the Army during the Korean War. Dick's radio career spanned fifty years.�He worked in the field as an announcer, salesman, general manager and, finally, owner of a number of Texas radio stations in Arlington, Longview, Lufkin, Abilene, Aggie 96 in College Station, and Victoria, as well as in Lake Charles, LA and Jackson, MS. � In 1974, Dick and his business partner founded KYKX radio in Longview which helped define their careers in Texas radio.�They initiated the first male/female morning talk show and launched the largest bass fishing championship in the world.�He was�the first inductee into the Texas Radio Hall of Fame in 2002.� Dick's dream was to become a sports broadcaster.�His love of all sports took special root in tennis.�Dick won the Texas High School State Championship, played on the TCU Varsity tennis team and Junior Davis Cup team, and played in United States Open and United States Clay Court Championships.�He presented a championship trophy to Arthur Ashe at a professional tournament he organized at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth. He was an avid golfer, enjoyed playing bridge, traveling, cheering on the Horned Frogs, singing in the church choir and being with his family. Dick is survived by his wife, Jean Osburn; daughter, Julie Osburn; son, Dixon Osburn; �step-daughter, Becky and husband Larry Bradley; step-son Chuck and wife Brenda Pool; grandchildren, Abbey, Chandler, and Chase Bradley, Meagan Pool and Justin Partney; and great grandson, Breyson Pool.�He is preceded in death by his parents and son, Michael Coen Osburn.
