JoAnn (Collins) True, age 81, passed away January 13, 2019 at her home in Montgomery, Texas comforted at her side by her husband, sister, and daughter. JoAnn was born on February 8, 1937 in Mount Pleasant, Iowa to Carolyn E. Dunn and John W. Collins.
JoAnn is survived by Charles A. True, her best friend and loving husband of 58 years, who cared for her tirelessly and tenderly through the months of her struggle with Parkinson’s; daughters, Kimberly Hayes and Katharine Lyon; siblings, Ned Collins, Barbara Dunn, and Rebecca Alexander; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and four cousins.
JoAnn, treasured wife, loving mother, and faithful sister and friend, loved unconditionally and cared deeply, always putting others first. A champion of the underdog, Jo cared for those with physical and mental disabilities, the aged, and those challenged by birth defects. She enriched the lives of all she encountered with her joyful and loving nature and witty sense of humor. She had a lust for life and enjoyed travel and adventure. Jo made it her mission to keep family and friends connected by sending birthday cards, pictures, jokes, and newsflashes, hosting gatherings, and calling and visiting folks around the country.
While her absence is felt profoundly, we continue to be inspired to live our lives filled with laughter, love for one another, and a dedication to serving others.
