It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jeffrey Brian Fletcher on
Friday, January 12. Jeff, 42, faced the challenges of living with a complicated
chronic illness with an incredible attitude, maintaining a spirit that was joyful and
appreciative.
Jeff was born on November 17, 1981, in Baton Rouge, LA, and grew up in a large
family with more than a dozen cousins, regular Sunday dinners, and summers full
of extended family vacations. Though he liked to project a tough and gruff
exterior at times, he remained lighthearted and full of interesting conversation,
big ideas, and laughter. Jeff had a just and generous heart; he would give the shirt
off his back or his last dime to anyone he thought needed it more than he did.
He enjoyed music, spending time with his dogs and friends, being outdoors, and
working hard. Living with cystic fibrosis meant challenges keeping up with
demanding days, but he loved working as a stagehand as well as doing landscaping
projects, both of which allowed him to combine things that made him happy. He
also had a fantastic hobby of “treasure hunting” and fixing up found items in his
garage to keep himself busy and productive in a way that worked for him and
kept him close to his parents.
Jeff is survived by his parents, Barbara Bochat Fletcher and George L. Fletcher,
Jr. and by his brother, Christopher Fletcher (wife Penny), as well as a multitude of
friends, cousins, aunts, and uncles. Jeff was preceded in death by his paternal
grandparents, George L. Fletcher, Sr., and Willa Mae Fletcher, and his maternal
grandparents, James and Leona Bochat.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in
memory of Jeff.
