Jean Rae Boggess Rethwisch

January 5, 1938 — May 8, 2020

Jean Rae Boggess Rethwisch , 82, of Houston, TX passed away peacefully on May 8, 2020.

Jean was born on January 5, 1938, in Houston, TX. She was an avid tennis player, enjoyed game nights with friends, traveled often, and made friends everywhere she went. She retired from the oil and gas industry in 1996. She poured her heart into genealogy, getting to know many of her distant relatives through yearly Boggess family reunions.

She raised four loving daughters in Bellaire, TX. She cherished time spent with them, especially summers in Galveston, TX, watching them raise their own families. She took great pleasure in being “Granny”. She taught her grandchildren many life lessons and numerous games for her to beat them at. Without a doubt, she was their biggest fan. Most of all her favorite role was being “GiGi” and “Granny” to her great-grandchildren, loving them unconditionally.

In 2012, Jean successfully received a lung transplant at St. Luke’s, giving her an additional seven and a half years to say, “I love you, more”.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all that have reached out to offer their condolences. She will be greatly missed by her family and her many, many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Janice (Agnew) Boggess; her brother, Kenneth Kyle Boggess; her grandson, Patrick William Walker II; and numerous other relatives.

She is survived by her sisters, Betty Lou Bauer and her husband Thomas, Darlene McNamara and her husband Terry; sister-in-law, Cheryl Tardiff; her four daughters, Cindy Hataway and her husband Tommy, Jorene Williams and her husband David, Jeanne Walker and her husband Pat, and Liz Rethwisch. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Dennis Rethwisch, Jeff Haehnel and his wife, Kendal, Kyle Williams, Reagan Williams, Caroline Walker; and her great-grandchildren, Steven Haehnel and Hazel Rae Nyffeler-Walker.

Arrangements for the celebration of Jean’s life will be made at a future date, due to COVID-19 restrictions.

In honor of Jean’s wishes, donations can be made to Clayton Library Friends and Houston Hospice.
