Jason Richard Fowlkes, 47, passed away unexpectedly on December 18, 2022. He was born on June 1, 1975 in Houston, TX and grew up in South Houston. He was ambitious at a young age as a member of Boy Scout Troop 17 and achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He was also a member of the National Honor Society and graduated from Milby High School in 1993. From there, Jason earned a scholarship to Houston Baptist University as an athletic trainer where he would meet the love of his life and future wife. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a double major in Biology and Human Kinetics from Houston Baptist University in 1999. He then went on to dedicate his professional career to the development of young children, serving as a teacher for 23 years, the last 18 of which he was a physical education teacher at Ehrhardt Elementary School in Klein ISD.
Jason was a faithful follower of Jesus and his desire to serve youth overlapped into the churches he attended. He grew up as a member at Park Place Baptist Church in South Houston where he participated in children’s and youth choirs and several mission trips. He was most recently a member of The Woodlands First Baptist Church where he served in the high school ministry as a student leader. He was also an active volunteer for VBS and a children’s summer camp counselor.
Jason loved being a dad and was actively involved in his son Jacob’s baseball team as a coach at Spring Klein Sports Association from t-ball through junior high school. He coached many of Jacob’s other sporting activities and loved spending time with his children. He was a loved and respected member of his community and dedicated his life to his faith, family, and our youth.
Jason is survived by his loving wife of 17 years, Jennifer Fowlkes; son, Jacob; daughter, Jacqueline; mother, Sherron A. Fowlkes; father, Jerry R. Fowlkes and wife Paula; brother, James “Frank” Fowlkes; mother-in-law, Mary Elias; father-in-law, Vincent Elias, brothers-in-law, Roosevelt Elias and Tom Elias; uncle, Daniel G. Cowart and wife Carol; aunt, JoAnn Cohen; aunt, Judy Jarman; great-aunt, Jo Ann Turner; numerous cousins; and countless friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Eloise S. Cowart, Daniel “Frank” Cowart, Lorraine Fowlkes, and J.R. Fowlkes; and uncles, John Fowlkes and James Fowlkes.
Serving as pallbearers will be: Michael Cowart, Grant Goodrich, Tom Elias, Nathan Elias, Roosevelt Elias, and Benjamin Elias.
