Jake William Poff died tragically in a kayak accident on November 9, 2025. Jake was born on March 24, 2011, in The Woodlands, Texas, to William and Julia Poff. Jake loved to go fishing and hunting. He would often go fishing at Lake Conroe, Lake Livingston, and various ponds and streams that he and his daddy came across.
Even as a child, Jake loved all things outdoorsy. More times than not, he was found outside. He loved playing with water, mud, and Nerf guns, and most enjoyed “wars” with his sisters. He was so curious about everything and was often messy or into something he wasn't supposed to be into.
Jake started his freshman year of high school on August 12, 2025. Jake was involved in the Air Force Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps with dreams of joining the military upon graduation. He was very proud and excited to follow in his sister's footsteps and join the Air Force after high school.
Jake is preceded in death by his grandmother, Debra Gottselig, and his grandfather, Paul Shipp, older brother Jonathan Poff, and younger sister Mia Poff.
Jake is survived by his mother, Julia Ann Poff, step-mother Gina Dare, his sister, and brother-in-law, Alysa and Doug Price, as well as his niece Kennedy Price, sister and brother-in-law, Caitlin and Floyd White, as well as his niece Hayley White; and his two nephews, Grant White and Elliott White, and his sister and brother-in-law, Emily and Jacob Horton as well as his niece Ily Horton and his nephew Liam Horton. Jake is also survived by his grandmother, June Shipp, and his girlfriend, Layla Niekamp.
Joining him in death are his father, William “Billy” Harvey Poff, and his best friend, Eric Lynn.
On Sunday, November 23, 2025, Jake’s family is hosting a “Celebration of Life” Ceremony at the Willis Community Center.
