Ira Gilbert Ellis, 78, of Montgomery, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 28, 1947, in Duncan, Oklahoma. Ira spent his childhood in various places before eventually settling in Farmington, New Mexico, where he attended Farmington schools.
Ira spent most of his working life in the oil industry, primarily overseas, before finishing his career as the owner and distributor of Matco Tools. He was a hardworking and incredibly “handy” man who could fix just about anything. There was very little he couldn’t figure out how to repair.
Throughout his life, Ira had a passion for old cars, motorcycles, and anything John Wayne. He enjoyed music, camping, traveling, and, most of all, spending time with his family.
Ira loved the Lord, and his faith became an important part of who he was. After attending The Ark Church for a short period of time, he made the life-changing decision to be baptized at the age of 50. He continued attending The Ark Church until his passing, where he found strength and fellowship in his faith.
Ira is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Martha Ellis; his daughter, Angie Dawn Chapman and Butch; his son, Ira Noel Ellis; and his four grandchildren, Hannah Ellis, Nichlaus Chapman, Bailey Ellis, and Grace Ellis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira Ellis and Dorothy Ellis.
The most important things in Ira’s life were his faith, his beloved wife Martha, his children, his grandchildren, and his cherished dog, Queenie Girl.
Ira leaves behind a lifetime of memories, love, laughter, hard work, and stories that will continue to be shared by those who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
The memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at The Ark Church, 450 Humble Tank Rd, Conroe, TX 77304.
