Gregory Allen Carter was born the third child of Jessica L. Carter and Kary J. Reed, on November 18, 1992. As a child, Greg was quite active in sports and extracurricular activities, along with his love for playing video games and action figures with his brothers. Greg attended Milkovich Middle School in Maple Heights, Ohio, where he continued his passion for football and wrestling, receiving several academic awards and sports accolades. He attended Conroe High School, in Conroe, TX where he kept a high-grade point average while excelling on the track, wrestling, and varsity football teams. Greg graduated from Conroe High School in the Spring of 2011 and went on to study Managerial Marketing at Kent State University, attending the same school along with his older sister, Elicia. He then studied History at the University of Akron and eventually transferred to Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas to finish his bachelor’s degree in Education. It was then that he became a substitute teacher, working in school districts around the Conroe Regional area. Greg began working for the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in several facilities around the state. Through constant hard work, Greg moved from the Telford facility to become Captain, at the Lewis Unit in Woodville, Texas in the Spring of 2022. Greg was not only passionate about his career but also about his family. In his pastime, Greg loved to watch and play sports, tell jokes, eat at different restaurants, read books, and ride his motorcycle anywhere he could. He loved his friends, and had an outreach of coworkers and comrades, spanning across the states of Texas and Ohio. Greg is survived by his one-year-old daughter, Gia Lynn Carter, who he often described as his best friend and ‘God’s Gracious Gift.’ Gia was her father’s world. He is also survived by his older sister Elicia Carter, older brother, Edward Carter, younger brother Leon Waldo, grandmother, Darthula Carter, as well as a community of friends and coworkers. He will be remembered for his laughter, his smile, and the impact he made on the lives of others, during his short time on this earth. May Greg be with God and may his soul rest in peace.
Grandmother’s Thoughts: “Gregory is the third of four children; however, he is one of the biggest. As a little boy, Greg used to play what you called ‘Get Away and Hide’. A big eater and a healthy young man, he wanted to play sports, especially football. His mom Jessica and I used to go after school to the football games he played. There, we cheered loudly for him, calling his name, whenever he made a play. Greg carried a bible around and knew a lot of scriptures. As a young man, he was into marketing and kept good grades. He was offered to represent Texas, and Washington D.C., as a National Honor Scholar. I was very proud of him, as he graduated from college at the top of his game. Growing up, Greg liked to laugh and tease his sister, and brothers and wanted me to tell him scary stories. " Tell me another one grandma ", he used to say. Only God knows all. May you rest in peace. Love is eternal. Grandma.
