Grace Hatley

August 8, 1935 — April 29, 2022

My dear mom, Grace Hatley, went to be with the Lord on Friday evening, April 29, 2022, at the age of 86.

She began having GI issues in December that led to an ER trip on February 9th. With their best guess treatment, it went awry and she ended up with aspiration pneumonia - which grew to totally destroy her lungs. She was only home for one month with 24 hour care before being admitted again last Sunday. We did everything we could but her lungs were done.

She came to live with us in 2016 and we built her a lovely home attached to ours. She loved the ranch and her “Barney Fife” chair where she watched the world, letting us know what was going on … also letting us know she wasn’t doing anything about it!!

The best highlights from the last year:
• A Dallas trip to visit some of her dearest friends
• Driving herself out to see the garden up close (and unawares through the watermelon plot, creating a total massacre)
• Equipping our “Redneck Riviera” Hogan Family Reunion with all the entertainment devices - reunions have always been the highlight of her life. The BEST family, Bolivar Peninsula, and 5 beachfront houses did not disappoint!!!!!
• Going to Brenham to be a tourist instead of waiting for a “feel better” day
• Opening up her heart to fully love our Ukrainian exchange student, Sasha. She has been a prayer warrior and rescue supporter for this war!!
• Out to CA “one more time” to see friends and family, play tourist in San Francisco, getting washed over with waves at Fort Pointe, driving through Stanford, out to the beach, sitting in a service at Bethel Church, and going by the “places” that held so many memories of 30 years being a local
• Being our small business short term loan partner for ranch projects
• Processing all the yield of the ranch and enjoying farm-to-fork together - beef, pork, venison, eggs, honey, garden, breads
• A “walk” to see our small town Christmas lights
• Dr Jeremiah’s local conference “What Now?” She was an avid follower and worshipped alongside his services all week long. Loved loved ALL his teaching series.
• Singing herself to sleep each night with “The Hymns of Glorious Praise” as her guide.
• Playing cards every chance we could on good days (Seven or 3/13)
• Commemorating my ordination with money towards my grand piano, and then getting to play for her to worship by.
• Being able to cook for her - meals in our house, and then “door dashing” her with enticing plates and frig leftovers on harder days. Making sure to be gluten free and dairy free.

And she loved us. All of us. The Hatley clan. My Miller clan. Her Hogan clan. Her five great-grands. The GriefShare she led and lives she enriched. Her Widows United and the friends she encouraged and equipped.
Phone calls with her siblings - Don, Bev and Darlene, Pastor David Jayne, Phyllis Wagoner, Gail and Walt Ligon, Beverly Neely; lunch dates with Helen Maynard.

Thank you to all the “Bethelites” CA and “Central Assembly” MO that were a part of the Hatley era. Thank you to friends that have stood solid in the last few really hard years.

Mom, Grandma Grace - we call you blessed and are grateful that you are with the God you knew and served your entire life. Faithful wife, mom, teacher, friend.

We will miss you ….. until we meet again!!
