Frank (Sonny) Ray Keene Jr.,78, passed away on September 13, 2023, in Cypress, TX. He was born on New Year's Day 1945, to Frank R. Keene Sr. & Lois Duncan in Raymondville, TX. To his friends and family growing up, everyone called Frank by his nickname “Sonny.” He grew up going hunting, fishing, and riding horses. Sonny and his family enjoyed traveling to Corpus Christi, Denver, and New Mexico. He was involved in numerous sports in high school graduating from Medina High School in 1963 and then went on to attend Southwest Junior College in Uvalde, TX. Even after his years in school, Sonny was involved with sports. He enjoyed watching college or professional games -- and would have as many TV’s as he could to keep up with games. The Astros and Oilers were his favorite professional teams. He coached his son and daughter in baseball and softball. In his 30’s & 40’s, he played men’s competitive slow-pitch softball as a pitcher – his teammates affectionately referred to him as the “Old Man.”
In 1968, after working in a family business in Artesia, New Mexico, Sonny moved his wife and son to Houston, Texas to be closer to his sister Barbara and her family where he joined a large industrial service company in the purchasing department and spent 30 years expediting for companies. Although Sonny retired, he wanted to remain busy, so he went to work for Walmart. He spent 20+ years at the front door greeting, working in the garden center, and scheduling in the automotive center. His Walmart “family” was special to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank R. Keene Sr., and Lois Duncan Saffell.
He is survived by his sister, Barbara Tipps & husband, Jim; son, Frank Ray Keene III (Trey) and daughter-in-law, Kelly; his daughter, Senisa Blume & husband, Eric; grandsons, Austen, Noah & Emerson; granddaughter, Jessica and husband, Jared – great grandkids, Piper & Stone; niece, Christi Tipps Cordner, and family; nephew, Michael Tipps, and family, his Casa Maria family: Humberto & Christy Noyola and grandsons Emiliano, Kevin, Ronaldo & Gael; his favorite brothers from Walmart, Kent Campbell and Mark Campbell; along with many other friends.
