Evan James Bennett

February 5, 1959 — November 14, 2024

Evan James Bennett, 65, of Cleveland, TX, passed away peacefully while holding his wife and daughter’s hand. He was born to Evelyn Rae Bennett in Phoenix, Arizona, on February 5, 1959. He was the firstborn of seven children and attended Conroe High School.

In August 1995, he met Charlott Burns, who became his wife in June 1997. They recently celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary. He was a member of Mims Baptist Church and a founding member of the Conroe Cruisers Car Club. He was born with talent and the know-how to work on anything. He started as a teenager working on lawnmowers for people in the area. In High School, he took a mechanics class and an outboard marine class. As a young adult, he was passionate about building transmissions and working on people’s vehicles. He opened his business, Evan’s Transmissions in Conroe and established himself as an honest, Christian business for over 40 years. His favorite quote was ‘Where satisfied customers send their friends.’

While everyone recognized his skills as a mechanic, his true passion lay in cherishing moments with his grandkids, proudly embracing the title of “pawpaw.” They were his universe, filling his life with joy. If you knew Evan, you would have heard him constantly bragging about one of them. His office was adorned with countless pictures of their smiling faces. Yes, he was a devoted husband and a successful business owner, but nothing brought him greater happiness than the time he spent with his grandchildren. Evan's passing has left a powerful memory in the hearts of those who honored him, especially his devoted wife and his loving daughter, both of who loved him so very much.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Bennett, and brother, Randy Buchanan. He is survived by his wife, Charlott Bennett; daughter, Lerinda (Nicholas) Ungar; step-son, Steve(Kimberly) Burns; grandchildren, Rylee, Carsyn, Easton, Colton, and Drake; two brothers and three sisters.
