Elizabeth "Betty" Lange passed away on December 10, 2018 in Conroe, Texas with Richard “Dick” Lange, her devoted husband of 63 years, by her side. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1934, Betty was the only child of James and Elizabeth McGraw Currie with whom she lived until she married Dick, a US Air Force serviceman stationed at Kirknewton AFB, Scotland, in 1955. Betty and Dick enjoyed an adventurous life with the military taking them and their three sons on assignments in Scotland, Germany, The Philippines, Turkey, San Angelo and, ultimately, San Antonio. While Dick served in the Air Force, Betty was a Family Services Volunteer and worked at the Lackland AFB BX. In San Antonio, she was a full-time secretary for a lawyer and then her church.
Betty's magnetic personality and colorful Scottish accent attracted friends wherever she went. She was passionate about animals and volunteered for the San Antonio Wild Animal Orphanage, providing round-the-clock care to newborn tigers, lions, bears, wolves, cougars, squirrels, deer, birds and other animals. She was a member, secretary, and past president of the San Antonio Scottish Society as well as a member of The Daughters of the British Empire. Other interests included travel, volunteering at the Texas Folklife Festival, teaching Scottish shortbread baking classes, square dancing, and spending time with beloved friends and family.
Betty is survived by her husband, Richard Milton Lange; sons, Steven James Lange, Dale Richard Lange and Richard Milton Lange; and grandchildren, Alesia Lange Johnson, Seth Lawrence Nowlin, Taylor Elizabeth Lange, Jakob Richard Lange and Chancey LaGay Lange. Her first great-grandchild is expected in February. A celebration of Betty's life will be held on at 1:30 pm on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 at The Carriage Inn, 750 Longmire Rd, Conroe, Texas 77304. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Montgomery County Animal Shelter
