Doris Louise Griffith, 71, passed away on September 27, 2018 at her home in Montgomery, Texas. Doris was born on December 6, 1946 in Brooklyn, New York.
Doris was the second child to Glenn Davidson Griffith of Ben, Virginia and Martha Irene Movinsky Griffith, of Barnesboro, Pennsylvania. She had an older brother, Glenn Robert Griffith, who was also born in Brooklyn and five years her senior.
Doris was a book nerd and loved to read, she would read anything she could find. Her favorites were Agatha Christie and the Reader’s digest. She loved to travel in her retirement to check items off her bucket list. She traveled to Australia, Alaska, Mexico and New Zealand as well as many states to visit the national treasures & historical sites of the United States with her childhood friends. Her favorite thing to visit was her children and grandchildren.
Doris graduated from Brooklyn College with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Economics. She continued her education years later after moving to Texas with her family at the University of Houston – Clear Lake earning a Master’s degree in Accounting and became a Certified Public Accountant. She then worked as a Controller before becoming a tax auditor for the state of Tennessee. Doris was a member of the Tree of Life Lutheran Church in Conroe, Texas, and she served the church in many capacities. She was also a member of the Stanley MUD board where she served the community of Montgomery for many years. Doris was a lover of animals, nature and human kind. She donated to many charities including the American Kidney Fund in honor of her brothers battle with kidney disease and the city of Denver’s arboretum where she planted a tree in remembrance of Carrie Chan.
Doris was preceded in death by both parents, Glenn and Martha Griffith; her brother, Glenn Griffith; and her grandson, Darin Eberly Jr. She is survived by daughter, Laura Odom; daughter, Lorraine Odom Eberly and her husband Darin Eberly Sr. and son, Grant Odom; grandchildren, Kyler Eberly, Corey Williams and Jason Eberly; and her cat, Sassy.
A celebration of life service will be held at the Tree of Life Lutheran Church located at 3201 N Loop 336 W, Conroe, TX 77304 on Monday, October 8, 2018 at 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the American Kidney Fund, your local arboretum or your local library.
Her life verse is Romans 12:2, “Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that you may prove what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
She will be truly be missed and we know that we will see her again in eternal life.
