Dewey “J.R.” Joseph Cormier, Jr. was born on June 21, 1953 in Mamou, Louisiana to parents Dewey Joseph Cormier and Helen. J.R. passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones at his home on June 30, 2024 in Conroe, Texas.
He later lived in Iowa, Louisiana before moving to Texas in the early 70’s. Before leaving Louisiana, he decided to go to the court house and have a judge help him marry the love of his life on October 30, 1973 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Later that day, their reception took place at The Shamrock night club. He and Judy would go on to create a beautiful legacy here in Texas, having two sons and one daughter.
J.R. worked for the Conroe Independent School District for 23 years, while having a side gig pressure washing with coach Larry Kemp. He was such an amazing human being with a very kind soul. He truly enjoyed helping people in their time of need to the best of his ability. J.R. was always ready to lend a hand and would be there both physically or financially for anyone who needed it.
He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He would always tolerate the trips to the casino, because that is what Judy enjoyed. He would have much rather been crabbing or fishing. When his grandchildren were young, one of his favorite things to do would be to take them to the park and play basketball.
Dewey “J.R.” Cormier, Jr. is preceded in death by his two children, Dewey “Joseph” Cormier III and Julie Ann Cormier; both parents, Dewey and Helen Cormier; and his brother, Leroy Cormier.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 50 years, Judy Jane Cormier; son, Michael Cormier; grandchildren; Mary Cormier, Zach Cormier (Samantha), Natily Cormier and Ayden Cormier; great-grandchildren, Ryder and Robert Michael “Robbie”; sister, Dorothy and Garrel Stump, brothers, Wilton Cormier (Marybell), Hilton Cormier (Barbara); and sister-in-law, Meri Diane “Deenie” Stevens.
J.R. will be extremely missed and forever loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
