Derlin Stanley Barnhill

April 26, 1939 — December 20, 2022

Derlin Stanley Barnhill was born April 26, 1939 to Alice Gladys Wallace and John William Kraus, Jr. At the age of 16, he was adopted by his step-father, James Lemon Barnhill and was proud to be a Barnhill to his last day on this earth. He married Patricia Ann Mueller in 1957. They had 3 children: Jay, Rhea, and Darryl. After their divorce, he married Eugenia Marie Dobson Manis on January 18, 1966. This added 3 sons to his family: Robert, Lonnie, and Douglas (Mokie).

Derlin worked many jobs, most notable being his time at NASA, his years in the fishing industry with a shrimp and oyster boat, his years working for different construction companies in oil and gas plants in the Houston and Texas City areas, and having his own business as an electrician and plumber. He also liked to dabble in longhorn cattle and local politics!

Though he only had a high school education, Derlin loved to learn about everything. He loved plants and through the years his and Jean’s yard has had a wide assortment of the plants he heard or read about. He loved animals and always had many different critters and pets that needed to be taken care of. In 2011, he suffered a stroke. Being less mobile meant less he could do on his own but in his last years, he daily feed his two horses, several yard cats, and his two goldfish (Mutt and Jeff).

Derlin loved to visit and talk. Lord, could that man talk! There was always a story to tell.
Always advice to give. Only death, in the end, could silence him. When we hear the silence too long that is when he will be missed the most as there was never a quiet moment when he was near.
