Dena Ann Swiger, 60, passed away on September 22, 2023 in Porter, Texas. She was born in Elmhurst, Illinois to parents Rebecca and Eugene Vandermeir. As a child she resided in Wheaton, IL until the age of 13, when she moved to Wisconsin. After graduating high school, she got married and had her son, Larry Swiger, Jr. In April of 2005 she moved to Texas where she would live out the rest of her life.
Dena was notorious for breaking bones. She was always funny and known for her jabber jaws. Her quirky personality carried throughout her adult years. While living in WI she lived on a farm and did farm chores before going to school. She enjoyed swimming, softball, pool, air hockey, and playing poker. She was a child of God and enjoyed going to Faith Bible Church and Jesus Church.
Her favorite career was being a waitress. She worked extremely hard and had a different name for each day of the week. The customers loved her and would always ask for her section when seated. She would always put smiley faces on the back of the receipts. She went even further and randomly wrote a note on one of the receipts that this customer’s meal was on her.
She is preceded in death by Monte (son), Rebecca Overfelt (mother), Bob Bruce (stepbrother), Evelyn Stritter (Ma), Eugene Vandermeir (father), Virginia Clark (stepmother), along with grandparents, aunts, and uncles.
Dena is survived by Larry Swiger, Sr. (husband), Larry Swiger, Jr. (son), Eugene Vandermeir Jr. (Ethan and Elton), Wendy Grimmette (Duane), Tracy Ferge (George), Keith Vandermeir, Mike Bruce, Tom Bruce, George Bruce, Vickie McVay, Odessa, Shurina, Billy and Mariah, and Donna O’Donnell (Nick, Shaun and Briteny), aunt Ramona Evans, aunt Carol Clark, uncle Richie Clark, along with her nieces and nephews.
