Loving Husband and Father, David Michael Gibson, 70, left us to be with The Lord on August 14, 2021 after an inspiring battle with numerous health issues. Even though a failing body took him away from this world, his strength and his faith never wavered. David loved and trusted God and his savior Jesus Christ through it all.
David was born September 19, 1950 in Kansas City, MO and grew up traveling the country following the pipeline as one of five children. He graduated from Gregory Portland High School in 1969 where he was a track star running hurdles. This led to a scholarship at Southwest Texas State College which he ultimately left to join the Air Force in 1971. Returning from his 4 years of overseas service during the Vietnam War, David became a Pipe Fitter and Welder bringing him to Local 211 in the Houston area. Here David married his beautiful and caring wife of 44 years, Kathy, in 1976. His hard work and dedication brought him into project management finishing his career at Gowan Mechanical in upper management overseeing operations. He also became a member of the Rocky Mountain Horse Club sharing his love of being horseback with his wife Kathy.
David is survived by his loving wife Kathryn Ann Gibson; his sons, Shane Gibson and wife Karen, Cruz Gibson and wife Emily; his grandson, David Michael Gibson II; his mother, Mary Gibson; his brothers, Dan Gibson and wife Lisa, Russ Gibson and wife Sue; and many others including his special grandniece, Jaycie who called him “Pap-Paw”. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Gibson and his two sisters, Kathryn Donna Gibson and Karen Boxley.
A memorial service will be held at 10am on Friday, August 20, 2021 at United City Church in Humble, TX where flowers may be sent. There will be a reception at the church immediately following the service. Alternatively, memorials may also be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center or The GBS/CIDP Foundation International.
