Conrad William Zwerneman, Jr., was born on March 2, 1923, in Houston, Texas. He joined his wife of 76 years in Heaven on January 11, 2025. He was 101 years old. His last words to those who cared for him were, “Please tell JoAnn not to leave without me.”
A fitting tribute to Conrad would take several pages to describe his warm character and love for his fellow men throughout his long life. However, it can be summarized with two powerful words: humility and kindness. A man who was more interested in hearing about you than talking about himself, Conrad was one of God’s angels sent into this world to spread joy and love. No one ever said a disparaging word about him because it would have been untrue.
Conrad is survived by his son Robert and his wife Nancy, six grandchildren, Tisha, William and his wife Celinda, Ryan, Rachel and her husband Chad, Meagan and Michael. He is also survived by his nieces Jeanie and Virginia and nephew Gerald, and several great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Conrad Sr. and Bessie, his wife JoAnn and son William; four sisters, Helen, Jeanette, Vivian and Shirley and their respective spouses and several nieces and nephews.
After graduating from Reagan High School, Conrad held a job at the Carnation Milk Company until he enlisted in the United States Military, Army Air Corps. He was trained as a cartographer. During World War II, he was stationed in England. After the war ended, Conrad returned to Houston and worked for the Carnation Milk Company. He married his high school sweetheart, JoAnn Fredo and the pair worked in Houston until retirement in 1985, when they relocated to Lake Livingston.
He and his wife JoAnn had a storied life with scores of friends far and wide who reveled in their happiness. The two shared a lifetime of fun dancing, playing bridge, golfing and traveling. They were the definition of lovebirds who mate for life and care deeply about one another.
A tribute to Conrad’s life will be held on Monday, February 10, 2025 at 1:00 PM in the Rob Chapel at The Woodlands Methodist Church. This is located at 2200 Lake Woodlands, The Woodlands, TX. A reception will follow.
