Clarence Edward Ake

May 7, 1938 — May 11, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Clarence Edward “Buck” Drake, who passed away peacefully at the age of 87, surrounded by his loving family.

Buck was born on May 7, 1938, in Houston, Texas, to parents Evie Mae Windham and Lealon Drake. On September 26, 1959, he married the love of his life, Alice Ann Drake. A devoted public servant, Buck dedicated 30 years as a DPS officer and sergeant before continuing his career with the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Department, where he served as Chief Deputy Sheriff for 11 years. He was also a proud veteran who served in the United States Air Force.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Alice Drake; his daughters: Terry Drake Moon and her husband, Darrell Moon; Pamela Drake Waggoner and her husband, Chris Waggoner; and Allison Drake Curry and her husband, Jay Curry. He leaves behind cherished grandchildren: Joseph Edward Drake, Christopher Waggoner, Keith Waggoner, Amanda Moon Denison, Morgan Waggoner Webb, Carson Curry, and Carley Curry; and great-grandchildren: Addison Denison, Emery Grace Denison, Jackson Edward Drake, Sutton Webb, and Logan Lou Waggoner.

Buck is also survived by his sister, Barbara Buxton; his brother, Roger Rivet, and wife, Mary Rivet; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, and uncles. He was preceded in death by his parents, Evie Windham and Lealon Drake, his brother, Virgil Drake, and wife, Carole Drake; and his brother-in-law, Larry Buxton.

Known as a true legend and a legacy to many, Buck will be remembered for his kindness, his dedication to his family, and his steadfast presence in the community. One of the family’s fondest memories is the saying, “Excuse me, sir, do you know who my dad is?”—a phrase that brought laughter and fondness throughout the years.

With tearful eyes, we watched him suffer
And saw him fade away.
Although we loved him dearly
We could not make him stay.

Buck, Dad, and Pawpaw will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
