Cecilia Kirk, age 77, passed away unexpectedly on July 13, 2022. She was born on January 29, 1945 in New Mexico. She grew up with her family in Uvalde, Texas, where they raised Nubian milk goats. She loved animals and collected wild critters like skunks and snakes. Her sister, Nancy, bought her a horse named Black Beauty, that she had for 30 years and loved.
As a youth, she pretended to be a boy named Cecille in order to play on the football team. She was a lesbian woman who wore an Elvis hairstyle and Western shirts in a time when it wasn’t acceptable. Her first childhood love was Ruthy and she later married Sue and then Jean. She was an excellent cook, a self-taught artist and a professional draftsman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Winno Jean Holmes Kirk, and her siblings, Jettie J McGee, Barbara Clark and Mary Elizabeth. She is survived by her siblings, Nancy Rae Perry, Erwin C. Penney and John C. Penney; her niece, Jeannie, that cared for her and was the closest she had to a daughter; and her doggies, whom she loved.
A graveside service will be held at 9 am on Thursday, July 21, 2022 in Oakland Cemetery, 801 Sixth Street, Navasota, Texas 77868, with the Rev. C. McAllister “Mac” Vaughn officiating.
