Blaine "Bear" Cassell

Feb 13, 1943 — Jun 23, 2026

Conroe

Blaine "Bear" Cassell was born on February 13, 1943, in Missouri. His death occurred on June 23, 2026 at his home in Conroe, Texas, after a nearly two-year battle with DLBCL lymphoma.

Bear is survived by his son, Jon B. Cassell and wife Vivian; grandsons Connor West and wife Lauren, and Jackson West and wife Taylynn; one great-grandchild, with another on the way; his brother, John Cassell; sisters Janice, Tonya, and Lorna; along with many extended family members and friends who will continue to honor his memory.

For years, Bear shared his life with Angela Thiel, his companion, best friend, and caregiver. She stood faithfully by his side throughout his illness, sharing countless adventures, laughter, and cherished memories with him over the years. Bear was also blessed by the friendship and steadfast support of Scott Lance, who faithfully helped care for the farm, chickens, and hogs for several years after Bear's leg injury in 2021. Their friendship, hard work, and shared love of farm life meant a great deal to Bear and brought him comfort, companionship, and peace of mind through the years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Carl Cassell; his daughter, Julie Beth West; and his nieces, Staci Gregory and Stefani Cassell.

Bear proudly served his country in the United States Army Artillery from 1964 to 1970. Following his military service, he built a career as a backhoe operator for plumbing contractors and earned his plumbing license. He excelled in his trade and took pride in a job well done.

While Bear was proud of his work, nothing brought him greater joy than his son, Jon. When speaking about him, he would often reference Matthew 3:17: "This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." He was equally proud of the life he built on his land, viewing it as both a blessing and a responsibility. Through countless projects, careful stewardship, and the sharing of eggs, vegetables, and whatever else he had to offer, Bear found purpose in providing for others.

Bear passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy as warm and welcoming as his beloved mini-farm. Known for his jovial spirit, a cold beer, and open-door conversations, he had a gift for making people feel at home. Bringing a smile to someone's face was second nature to him, and laughter was often his favorite medicine. Whether someone stopped by for eggs, vegetables, or simply a visit, they were always greeted with generosity, friendship, and a story worth hearing.

Over the years, Bear shared not only the fruits of his labor but also the knowledge, encouragement, and practical wisdom he gathered along the way. His example of hard work, generosity, and stewardship will continue to live on in those who knew him.

In his honor, the family asks that you take a moment to chat with a neighbor, lend a helping hand, share a laugh, or raise a glass to a life generously and genuinely lived.
