After a life devoted to the family she adored, Betty Jo Williams (Roberts) passed from this life to the next on February 17, 2024. She died unexpectedly from cardiac arrest at Lewis Park Estates in Conroe, TX, where she resided for the last five years.
Betty was born to Beatrice and Lowell Roberts on October 10, 1935, in Stillwater, OK. She grew up in a variety of small towns in Oklahoma before her family settled in Cushing. She graduated as salutatorian from Dundee High School in McMann, OK, and earned a B.S. in Business Education from Southeastern State College in Durant, OK, in 1956.
She met the love of her life, Jerre Williams, and the couple married in 1958. They lived in several small towns in the Southwest as Jerre’s career progressed in various oilfield service companies. Along the way, daughter Allison was born in El Dorado, AR, and daughter Judy in Mexia, TX. Following an extended stay in Metairie, LA, the family finally put down roots in Conroe in 1971. They lived in River Plantation and later in Wroxton as they made friendships throughout the community. Betty worked as an accountant for Andy Walker, CPA, in a career spanning 43 years.
Betty loved the Lord and local churches were a staple of life no matter where she lived. She and Jerre raised their young family at First Christian Church while in Metairie, followed by long and faithful membership at First Christian Church in Conroe. Betty was active in Sunday School and choir, served the congregation in various capacities, and was a legendary chef of fried chicken for church suppers.
The times Betty valued most were the ones spent following her daughters’ activities, enjoying gatherings with her close friends, and later, spoiling her grandchildren on shopping trips. Her talents and interests were varied. She was especially adept at math and accounting. She played piano, sang, and sewed. She was a devoted follower of Astros baseball and OU football. She later became a fan of Baylor University and Texas A&M University – simply because her grandchildren were graduates.
Throughout her life, Betty never lost her characteristically dry sense of humor. Even as she experienced advanced stages of dementia and endured increasing levels of medical care, she was known by her caretakers for frequent wisecracks, good-natured teasing, and her sweet disposition.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, sister Judy Moreland, brother Jim Roberts, and husband Jerre Williams. She is survived by her daughter Allison Moon and husband Jeff, daughter Judy Wold and husband Tim; grandchildren Corey Moon and wife Nicole, Taylor Brass and husband Michael, Meredith Hanley and husband Brian, Emily Lester and husband Jake, Caroline Taglioli and husband Nick; and great grandchildren Brayden Brass, Emersyn Brass, Hallie Hanley, Hannah Kate Hanley, Winnie Moon, and Georgia Taglioli.
The graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, February 26, 2024 in Garden Park Cemetery, 801 Teas RD, Conroe, TX 77303.
