Betty Watts

November 5, 1935 — February 20, 2014

Betty Watts, 78, passed away in her sleep at home in Spring, Texas early on the morning of Thursday, February 20, 2014. Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to Nolan and Nelma LeBlanc, she grew up in nearby Livonia. Betty married Steve Richardson and they raised two children, Steven and Joie, in Baton Rouge and Houston. She divorced Steve and married Bill Watts a few years later. They moved to Tucson, Arizona and lived there for over 20 years until Bill died in 2003. Betty worked her entire adult life as a secretary for several large corporations and retired as a federal employee in 2000. She loved the desert but moved to Spring in 2004 to live with her daughter Joie and enjoy the company of her grandchildren. Betty's primary hobby was gardening; she loved flowers, birds (especially hummingbirds), and her dogs and cats. Betty had the gift of curiosity and a rare appreciation of the beauty in simple things. Friends and family liked her sweet smile and gentle demeanor, and everyone found her very easy to get along with. She was devoted to her family and always placed their interests before her own. Betty's brother, Hubert LeBlanc of Independence, Missouri, preceded her in death; she is survived by two sisters, Barbara Blanchard of Maringouin, Louisiana, and Celeste Layrisson of Ponchatoula, Louisiana. She is also survived by two children, Steve Richardson and his wife Mari of Falls Church, Virginia; and Joie Giroir of Spring, Texas; two grandchildren, Steven Gutterud of Houston, Texas, and Stanley Richardson and his wife Devin of Austin, Texas; and four great-grandchildren. Most of all, Betty leaves us with many pleasant memories; we love her and we will miss her!
