Betty Benbow Speakerman

Betty Benbow Speakerman, age 73, passed away on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2013. She was blessed to spend her last days with friends and family near. Betty was born on October 29, 1940. She graduated with honors from the University of Houston Victoria Campus. Betty was a multitalented woman holding professions with the comptroller's office in Austin and as a teacher with Willis and Austin school districts. She held positions at various political offices as she was very active in the Democrat Party from local to national levels. She was a member of the Social Order of the Beauceant and Order for the Eastern Star. Her true love and passion in life was her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time with them and taking advantage of teachable moments to help them learn and find joy in life. She was very loved and appreciated by her family and friends. Betty is survived by her children, Elizabeth Speakerman Flores and husband, Martin, William Jeffrey Goode, Andrew Speakerman, Jr., and Carol Jean Speakerman Laughhunn and husband Daniel Laughhunn; grandchildren, Esmeralda Speakerman Flores, Rodrigo Flores, Adriana Flores and partner Hannah Dustin, Rodolfo Flores, Veronica Flores and husband Gabriel Guajardo, William (Billy) Bernard and wife Kristy, Sherry April Kundla and husband Michael, Elizabeth Podsim and husband Randall, and Carmen Goode; great grandchildren, Jeremiah, Marianna, and Anthony Flores, Isaiah, Noah, and Martin Flores-Guajardo, Scarlett Lily, Vincent Michael Kundla, and Brynn Taylor Bernard; siblings, R. H. (Bobby) Benbow and Sherry Adams; and numerous relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her sister, Willie Jeanette Benbow. Serving as pallbearers will be Martin Flores, Rodolfo Flores, Martin Flores, Jr., Veronica Flores, Adriana Flores, and Esmeralda Flores. In lieu of flowers, donations in Betty's name may be made to the Gideons International for Bible distribution or to a cancer research organization of your choice.
