Alicia Tabor

Alicia Ann Jones Tabor, 59, of Conroe, Texas, passed away unexpectedly on August 30, 2026. Born October 11, 1966, in Houston, Texas, to Winfred Earl Lewis Jr. and Elizabeth Ann Leatherwood, Alicia was a lifelong Texan whose creativity, determination, independence, and unmistakable personality left an impression on everyone who knew her.

Alicia grew up in the Houston area and later helped her mother build the family lake house in Onalaska, Texas- a place that became part of her family's story. In 2003, she made her home in Conroe, where she remained for the rest of her life.

Anyone who knew Alicia knew that she was rarely content to sit still. She was driven, outspoken, stubborn, funny, fiercely independent, and endlessly creative. When Alicia became interested in something, she threw herself into it completely. She often believed in simply taking “the bull by the horns” and figuring things out along the way.

She truly made a hobby out of having hobbies. Alicia loved crafting, gardening, making candy, sewing, decorating, creating, and learning how to do just about anything that caught her interest. Halloween and Christmas gave her an especially good excuse to let her creativity take over. When her children were young, she made some of their clothing herself and created their Halloween costumes by hand. She took pride in her Polish heritage and carried pieces of her family's traditions into the home and family she created.

Her creativity extended into her professional life as well. Alicia was proud of her time drawing and working for The Greensheet and later working for the Yellow Pages. She was also an exceptionally talented saleswoman, including during her time with KB Home. Whatever she took on, Alicia approached it with determination, passion, and the belief that she could figure out how to make it work.

Some of the strongest memories of Alicia, however, can be found around the family table. She was known for dishes that her children and grandchildren will continue to associate with her, including gumbo, chicken and dumplings, homemade noodles from scratch, chicken enchiladas, and tortilla soup. Like so many things Alicia created with her own hands, food was another way she left pieces of herself behind for the people she loved.

Above everything she accomplished and created, Alicia was immensely proud of her children. She is survived by her husband, Kevin Lynn Tabor; her children, Brittany Ferguson and husband Joshua Ferguson, Zachary Jones and wife Kaylynn Glodt, and Vanessa Jones and her husband, Jack Sawko; and her beloved grandchildren, Grayson Ferguson, Arlo Ferguson, Hansel Ferguson, Bellamy Ferguson, and June Jones; Her siblings; Madeline Luna, DeeDee Lewis Bates, Carlton Lewis, and Clifford Lewis. She also leaves behind countless nieces and nephews throughout all sides of her family, along with many extended family members and friends whose lives became intertwined with hers over the years.

Alicia was preceded in death by her father, Winfred Earl Lewis Jr.; her mother, Elizabeth Ann Leatherwood; brother, Ronnie Gurnis; brother, Winfred Lewis Jr.; and son, Vaughn Andrew Jones IV.

There was only one Alicia. She could make you laugh, tell you exactly what she thought, come up with an idea no one else would have considered, and then somehow teach herself how to make it happen. She was passionate, complicated, determined, creative, and entirely herself. Her family will remember the things she made, the meals she cooked, the holidays she transformed, the traditions she carried forward, the phrases only she could say quite the way she did, and the countless pieces of herself she tucked into the lives of the people around her.

Her death came far too soon and without warning, leaving behind a space that cannot simply be filled. But Alicia also leaves behind a lifetime of things made by her hands, stories that will continue to be told, recipes that will be recreated, traditions that will be carried on, and children and grandchildren who will carry pieces of her with them for the rest of their lives.

Alicia will be laid to rest in Houston, Texas at the Houston National Cemetery.
